Nepal is a landlocked country that lies in south-east Asia. It is bordered by China in the north and India in the south, east and west. It has an area of 1, 47,181 sq.km which is only 0.3% of the total land mass of Asia and 0.03% of the world. It is divided in to three parts: Himalayan, Hilly and Tarai region. Himalayan region covers about 15% of the total land area of the country whereas Hilly region covers about 68% of the total land area and remaining 17% of the total land area is covered by tarai region.
The weather is also different from region to region. Himalayan region is on the height above 3300m from the sea level. Likewise, Hilly region altitude ranges from 600to3300m and Tarai is nearly up to 600m high from the sea level. It is hot in Tarai and cold in Himalayas. The weather modaratenither cold nor hot in the Hilly region. In winter, the western region is cold in both north and south. There are Hills and Mountains in all parts of the country except Tarai. Even in Tarai there is a hill called chure and passes from east to west. Similarly, Mahabharat Mountain passes from the middle and himalayan from the northern border. The tarai land is plain and suitable for agriculture so it is called the food basket of Nepal.
In terms of land area, Nepal is divided in to three parts dividing from east to west. Hilly region is the biggest region among others. In terms of River, it is divided from north to south in three regions: Koshi, Gandaki and Karnali. But politically, Nepal is divided into five regions, fourteen zones, seventy five districts, ninety-nine municipalities, and three thousands seven hundred and thirty six village development committees.
Nepal is famous for natural beauties in the world. Nepal is well-known for mountains, Rivers, Lakes and cultural heritage. It has 10 of the highest mountains in the world including the highest of tem all Mount Everest 8848m. Nepal also has tremendous water resources, being second to Brazil in terms of hydro electric power generating capacity. Nepal’s River systems are Koshi, Narayani, Gandaki, Karnali and Mahakali all of which originate in the Himalayas.
The country’s capital is the mythical Kathmandu, which has seven of the country’s heritage sites. Nepal is home to about 29 million people of various ethnicities, culture and language. And main occupation of Nepalese people is agriculture. About 80% of the people depend upon agriculture. Some of the educated people are employed in other sector such as teaching, office work, and business. People belong to various social and religious groups; they really practice unity in diversity. The majority of the people in Nepal are Hindus. However, there are also the people who follow Buddhism, Muslim, and Christianity. The people of Nepal follow different customs and celebrates different festivals such as dashin, Tihar, TeejFagu,Chhat, and Lochhar, speaks different languages and have different dress patterns.
Nepal is also home to a lot of animals, the most famous being is the snow leopard, the red panda, the yak, the one horned rhino, the royal bangal tiger, the wild buffalo and the gharial. Similarly, Nepal is also home to different bird species. These exotic animals can be seen at many reserve and national park around the country including Chitwan national park, Sagarmatha national park, Bardia national park, Rara national park, Khaptad national park, Makalu barun national park, Sheyphoksundo national park, Shivapuri national park and Langtang national park. Nepal has other three conservation areas and wildlife reserve areas to protect the animals from their extinction. On the other hand Nepal also has plenty of lovely resorts located on the hills, mountains and tarai.
